Health insurance options (not medical) for low-income family in CA?

Luna asked:
My husband and I have no coverage and this makes us nervous. We don’t want to be in a predicament if we need emergency care if anything bad happens. Our child qualified for medical so that is taken care of, but we ourselves do not qualify based on being just over asset limits.

Is there a cheap plan that we can get so that we don’t end up in a terrible bind in case of an emergency? Husband only works part time while going to school so he doesn’t qualify for health insurance through his company. We have very little to put towards insurance, but we need something. What options do we have? Someone suggested once, that we get catastrophic health insurance. Is this the most appropriate thing?
Thanks!

I am sure that you are aware of the healthcare crisis in America. I feel for you…I do. I am self employed and I have needs. I have been uninsurable and even the companies who will consider me ask for too much $ and give me so many stipulations.
Well, I now work for a company that offers affordable solutions for healthcare needs. It is not insurance, but there aren’t near as many stipulations or high costs. Check out the link at the top and look around. Feel free to contact me with any questions and concerns.
Good luck!!

For health insurance, “catastrophic” simply means insurance with very high deductibles. You can take out an individual plan for you and your husband if you can afford several hundred dollars a month.
You need to make sure, at the same time, you are putting away money in savings to take care of the deductible on the insurance.
My site can help you in the application process, and has links for insurance quote providers.
Take Care.
